Relief Printing - Reduction Linocut

Explore the bold and graphic nature of reduction linocut printmaking. Learn how to prepare lino blocks, cut an image, prepare paper and print a limited edition. Participants will be shown methods of cutting, inking, rolling-up and registration techniques to produce a reduction linocut. Enter the fascinating world of this traditional printmaking medium used for making contemporary images.

This two-day course is designed for those who are beginning to explore creative possibilities, as well as those with prior experience who are keen to refresh or expand their printmaking knowledge and skills. The Reduction Linocut method uses only a single block to print all colours of the one image, typically printing from lightest to darkest. It requires careful planning and a reference drawing is very useful. Participants will learn how to print by hand as well as using a variety of printing presses, to produce original fine art prints.

For the two-day duration of the course, APW will provide all materials needed (including inks, lino blocks, paper, printing materials etc). All participants will be able to create a two-colour image up to 12cm x 18cm in size. Please bring with you to the course any any ideas, sketches, drawings, photos, etc that may assist you in articulating and developing your image.
