APW Print Studio & Gallery Assistant
Hours: 7.5 hrs per week (Saturday: 9am-5pm)

This new casual position requires a customer-service focus and a commitment to the safe and efficient operation of the APW Print Studio Access Program and Gallery on Saturdays.

Australian Print Workshop (APW) is Australia’s leading independent not-for-profit arts organisation dedicated to the art of fine art printmaking and the support of contemporary Australian artists. Established in 1981, APW has a highly respected and successful track record in fine art printing, public gallery programs and exhibitions, international projects, public and corporate commissions, education programs, and community outreach projects.
Our Gertrude Street home is a hub of printmaking studios, workshops, exhibitions, and artists in residence.
APW’s Print Studio Access Program provides experienced printmakers with access to a wide range of professional printmaking equipment and facilities. The Studio has recently been reconfigured as a COVID-safe space with clearly defined individual workstations with individual sets of equipment and supplies.
APW’s Gallery and Retail Space promotes the art of printmaking through a calendar of changing exhibitions and other public programs.
You will be joining a small and committed team at Australian Print Workshop. Your primary responsibility will be ensuring a high-quality visitor and customer experience in both the APW Print Studio Access Program and Gallery.
The APW Print Studio & Gallery Assistant is responsible for ensuring the Studio is a productive and safe space for the Artists participating in the APW Print Studio Access Program. They will monitor adherence to safe practices and protocols by Artists making work in the Studio. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing the Studio at the beginning and end of the day, setting-up workstations for Artists, and ensuring adequate supplies of consumables are kept in stock. Additional duties may include assisting APW Printers with other print-related tasks.
You will also assist the APW Gallery & Retail Manager. Duties in relation to APW Gallery will, at a minimum, require cover for the APW Gallery / Retail Manager’s lunch break and may include assisting with customer enquiries, wrapping artworks, preparing works for display, assisting with mounting and framing, stocktake and sales. You will also assist at APW Gallery openings and other public events from time to time.
You will have experience in customer service (perhaps in a retail or hospitality setting) and ideally have a background in the arts, preferably with some understanding and/or technical knowledge of fine art printmaking.
Prior work experience as a studio technician; or sales assistant in an art supply shop and/or art gallery; or skills in framing and mounting artwork would be highly valued.
