Australian Print Workshop held an intensive 2-day etching workshop for 10 indigenous artists from south-eastern Australia, to generate new works specially commissioned for exhibition as part of the Victoria Cultural Week Program held at World Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan.
The participating artists included: Vicki Couzens (Koroit); Lee Darroch (Raymond Island); Treahna Hamm (Wodonga); Eileen Harrison (Warragul); Lisa Kennedy (Toora); Kim Lampton (Rye); Jennifer Mullett (Bairnsdale); Ray Thomas (Lalor); Lyn Thorpe (Preston) and Kevin Williams (Echuca).
The artists travelled to APW from around Victoria to attend the workshop, April 2005. The workshop focused on skills development for the artists, as well as the generation of new works in the print medium of etching. Each artist’s work was subsequently printed in a small edition of 10. One work from each edition was framed and mounted to form the exhibition blood country that was exhibited as part of the Victoria Cultural Week Program at World Expo (26 June - 2 July 2005).
Following its return from World Expo, blood country was exhibited at Australian Print Workshop Gallery from 20 August to 24 September 2005.
A selection of five works from blood country was also exhibited at the East Gippsland Aboriginal Corporation, Bairnsdale, for NAIDOC Week, 4 – 11 July 2005.
blood country was exhibited at a special 1-day event Reconciliation Day 2005, presented by the Koori Business Network and the Department of Justice, Victoria, in The Atrium, Federation Square, 27 May 2005.
