APW Exhibitions at other Venues

Australian Print Workshop regularly curates and organises Exhibitions at Other Venues.

Exhibitions originating from the Australian Print Workshop have been displayed in major museums and galleries throughout Australia and overseas.

A number of recent International Projects undertaken by the APW have involved exhibitions from the Australian Print Workshop travelling to major venues overseas.

APW was invited to exhibit works at the Australian Embassy, Washington DC, USA. The exhibition, Home & Away: Limited Edition Prints from Australian Print Workshop featured 35 works by 15 artists. (12 July – 23 September 2011).

APW was invited to curate an exhibition of Indigenous works for the Artrium Exhibition Space, in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Sandringham. Four etchings by Melbourne based artist Vicki Couzens commissioned by Bayside City Council and printed in collaboration with APW Printers were exhibited alongside works by other leading Indigenous Artists. Contemporary Indigenous Printmaking was opened with a special flag raising ceremony to celebrate reconciliation week on the 28 May 2011. (26 May – 4 July 2011).

The Castlemaine State Festival Visual Arts Biennial invited APW to curate an exhibition of limited edition prints, titled Beyond Capricorn. This exhibition showcased 28 works by 20 artists from communities located above the Tropic of Capricorn. The works featured are the result of APW’s on-going partnerships with artists as far a field as the Kimberley, Arnhem Land, the Tiwi Islands, Central Australia, Torres Strait Islands, Cape York Peninsula and south eastern Australia. Beyond Capricorn attracted close to 20,000 viewers over the ten day period of the festival. (1 – 10 April 2011).

APW presented a selection of works, at the invitation of the Mongolian Committee of the Federation of Asian Artists, at The 25th Asian International Art Exhibition, held at the Mongolian National Modern Art Museum, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (September - November 2010).

APW curated an exhibition of 30 limited edition prints gifted by the State Government of Victoria to Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Japan, to mark the 30th Anniversary of the Aichi-Victoria Sister State relationship. The selection of 30 prints were produced by Australian Print Workshop in collaboration with artists from Melbourne and Regional Victoria; from Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory; from Moa Island in the Torres Strait Islands; from the Tiwi Islands in the Northern Territory; from Kalumburu in north-western Australia, and from Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia. An exhibition of the prints was held at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Japan (4 - 11 June 2010) and at Parliament House, Melbourne, Victoria (9 - 12 July 2010).

APW was invited to present an exhibition at Walker Street Gallery in the outer metropolitan Victorian region of Dandenong (July 2010). The exhibition comprised of 10 works produced by APW in collaboration with Indigenous Artists from around Australia for the folio Duyfken: The Aboriginal Print Portfolio, as well as a selection of five Victorian Indigenous Artists.

APW held a printmaking workshop with 11 secondary school students who produced new works for The Asian Youth and Children Invitational Art Exhibition, hosted by the Hong Kong Youth Visual Art Association at the Exhibition Gallery City Hall, Central Hong Kong, China (25 - 27 July 2008).

The Australian Embassy in Washington DC, USA, invited APW to curate an exhibition of prints from the Australian Print Workshop for the Embassy's Gallery. The exhibition Australian Print Workshop: Impressions from Australia (29 November 2007- 25 January 2008) included 44 works by 27 artists.

APW was invited to undertake an 'artist-in-residency' project in the remote aboriginal community of Barunga, to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the annual Barunga Festival in 2006, resulting in an exhibition displayed as part of the Barunga Festival of Sport and Culture (8 -12 June 2006).

APW was a featured gallery in Art Sydney 06, held at the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (22 - 25 June 2006).

APW was invited to curate the exhibition Indigenous Prints from the Australian Print Workshop which was shown in conjunction with a Print Symposium held at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (January 2006).

APW held an intensive 2-day etching workshop in April 2005 for 10 indigenous artists from South-eastern Australia, to generate new works specially commissioned to form the exhibition ‘blood country’ as part of the Victoria Cultural Week (26 June - 2 July 2005) Program held at World Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. 'blood country' was also exhibited at the special event Reconciliation Day 2005, presented by the Koori Business Network and the Department of Justice, Victoria, in The Atrium, Federation Square, Melbourne on 27 May 2005.

APW presented a selection of works, at the invitation of the Japan Committee of the Federation of Asian Artists, at The 19th Asian International Art Exhibition, held in Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan (October - November 2004). 

APW was invited to curate an exhibition of thirty prints for the Australian Festival held at the Mission Hills Golf Club & Resort, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China (April - May 2004). APW presented this exhibition with the support of the Australian Consulate-General, Guangzhou and the Mission Hills Group, China. 

Guangzhou Museum of Art, China invited APW to curate the exhibition Australian Indigenous Prints held at the Museum to showcase work by Australian Indigenous artists (December 2002 - January 2003). 

APW presented a selection of works, at the invitation of the Chinese Committee of the Federation of Asian Artists, at The 18th Asian International Art Exhibition, held in Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou, China (December 2001 - January 2002).

APW touring exhibition People in a Landscape: Contemporary Australian Prints travelled to the Canakkale State Fine Art Gallery, Canakkale, Turkey in partnership with Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (April - May 2003); United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland (February - March 2003); Manege Exhibition Hall, St Petersburg, Russia (January 2003); the German Foreign Office, Berlin, Germany (June - July 2002); Thailand's major university galleries situated in Khon Kaen, Bangkok and Chiang Mai (August 2001 - February 2002); Barefoot Gallery, Colombo, Sri Lanka (June - July 2001); Earl Lu Gallery, LASALLE SIA College of Arts, Singapore (March - May 2001); The 15th Asian Art Exhibition, Tainan County Gallery, Taiwan, Republic of China (October - November 2000); and the Cultural Centre of the Philippines, Manilla, Philippines (April - June 2000).

APW was invited to coordinate an exhibition of six works for display in the public areas of the Australian Business Arts Foundation's Melbourne headquarters, showcasing three well-known indigenous artists: Maryanne Mungatopi, Judy Watson and Pedro Wonaeamirri (May - December 2005). APW was also invited by Bathurst Regional Gallery to present an exhibition to coincide with the Pressing Issues Central West Print Focus festival and forum (2 - 31 December 2005). APW was a featured gallery in the art fair Art Sydney 05, held at the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (25 - 28 August 2005).

APW exhibitions have also been organised for major galleries across Australia including APW exhibition People in a Landscape: Contemporary Australian Prints at the Manningham Gallery, Doncaster (April - June 2004). This was the first Melbourne viewing of this APW exhibition that has toured internationally. APW exhibited at the 9th Sydney Art on Paper Fair, Fox Studios, Sydney (July - August 2003). Other APW exhibitions have been organised for Holmes á Court Gallery, Perth (October - November 2000); Gold Treasury Museum, Melbourne (April 2000), Albury Regional Museum, Albury, NSW (October - December 2000) and La Trobe Regional Gallery, Morwell (November - December 1999).

These exhibitions are usually curated from the Australian Print Workshop's extensive archive collection of limited edition prints - which includes limited edition prints by many of the artists who have used the Workshop's printmaking facilities to produce their work.
